The diagnosis of cancer
While there may be variations depending on the location and nature of symptoms, the diagnosis of cancer is usually based on the following:
Clinical examination to assess the general condition
- Auscultation allows the physician to see the visible or palpable signs of the disease.
- Blood tests and urine tests to provide the knowledge of the key such as:
- The number of red blood cells, white cells and platelets
- Hemoglobin
- Creatinine levels
- Certain markers (substances related to the presence of cancer cells)
Endoscopy to explore a cavity
By introducing an endoscope (a thin, flexible tube equipped with an optical system) in a cavity, the doctor can see inside and find a possible injury.
– Endoscopy explores the stomach and bronchi:
- during endoscopy stomach, the endoscope is introduced into the digestive tract through the mouth (sometimes under light anesthesia). This review does not last more than 5 minutes and is painless (even if the sensation when passing the endoscope is unpleasant).
- During bronchoscopy, the endoscope is introduced into the lungs by nostril.
Both tests do not last more than 5 minutes and, although unpleasant, they are not painful.
– Colonoscopy explores the colon: the endoscope, inserted through the anus (under anesthesia) can detect polyps, even very small and take samples to analyze their nature.
Radiography to visualize the lungs and bones
Although more and more replaced by new techniques, radiography remains a key consideration in the diagnosis of lung cancer and bone cancer.
Ultrasound to visualize organs and withdrawals
After applying the gel on the skin of the patient, the doctor moves a probe over the area they wish explore and view images directly on a screen using ultrasound. Ultrasound can detect abnormalities visible, and also to make a very precise sampling.
Mammography for breast cancer to explore
It is a breast X-ray to detect abnormalities (mild or severe). It does not present a definitive diagnosis, but may guide further testing.
MRI to explore the brain, bone marrow and soft tissue
The patient, lying on a couch, gets into a kind of great success. The device supports a large number of photos that will be caused by computer for analysis. This review, relatively long (20 to 30 minutes) is completely painless. While "locked" in the device, the patient remains in contact with the manager and he will be called by a bell.
The scanner to scan the whole body, especially the lungs
Also known scanner consists of a bed that slides into a kind of large ring. It takes a series of photographs of the body area to explore, which is x-rayed "increments. The images are assembled by computer. This scan (5 minutes) is completely painless.
The PET scan to detect cancer cells
This opinion is based on the injection of a glucose-like and low-level radioactive allows to visualize the cancer cells because they consume much more glucose than cells. The endoscopy went well, but the blood work says I and thyroid. Please answer these questions … -What are the treatments for a thyroid? Can medicine they give you cause weight loss?
so I'm not a dr or anything but I had a friend who had a thyroid deficiency and after have started treatment, it dropped to 100 lb (shes 5'8!) and couldnt gain weight at all! thats really all I know … sorry I could not be a big help: (
